Open a personal account in 5 steps
Nothing here is a surprise on the day. Read it through, gather what you need, and the application itself is straightforward.
Check you are eligible
You need to be 18 or over, hold valid government-issued photo identification, and be able to evidence a residential address in a country we serve.
- Aged 18 or over
- Valid passport, national ID or driving licence
- Proof of address from the last three months
- Your tax residency and tax identification number
Get your documents ready
Photograph or scan them before you start. A clear, uncropped image is the single biggest factor in getting approved first time.
- All four corners visible
- No glare across the text or photograph
- Document must be unexpired
- Name must match your application exactly
Complete the application
Your legal name, date of birth, address, contact details, nationality, tax residency and employment information. It saves as you go, so you can finish later.
Verify your identity
Upload your documents through the secure screen. This is a legal requirement for every regulated institution — it is also what stops anyone opening an account in your name.
Fund and start banking
Once approved, your account number and banking details appear in online banking. Make a first deposit and set up two-factor authentication, and you are live.
What you will need
Have these ready and the application takes minutes. Documents that are expired, cropped or do not match the name on the application are the single most common cause of delay.
Photographing documents
Flat, dark, non-reflective surface in good natural light. All four corners in frame, no glare across the text or photograph.
Photo identification
Valid passport, national identity card or driving licence.
Proof of address
Utility bill, bank statement, tax notice or government letter from the last three months.
Tax details
Your tax identification number and country of tax residency.
Never email your documents
Upload them only through the secure screen in the application or in online banking. Optimal MetroHub Bank will never ask you to send identity documents by email or message.
Answered before you ask
How do I open an account with Optimal MetroHub Bank?
Start the application online, verify your identity, and fund the account. Most straightforward applications are completed the same working day.
Opening an account with Optimal MetroHub Bank is done entirely online. There is no branch visit and no paperwork to post.
The five steps
- Choose your product. Personal checking, savings, a business account or a treasury facility — each product page lists the features, rates and eligibility so you can compare before you commit.
- Complete the application form. We ask for your legal name, date of birth, residential address, contact details, nationality, tax residency and employment or business information.
- Verify your identity. Upload a government-issued photo ID and a recent proof of address. This is a regulatory requirement for every regulated financial institution — see Why we verify your identity.
- Wait for the review. Our onboarding team performs identity, sanctions and eligibility checks. You will receive an email at each stage, and you can check progress by signing in.
- Fund and activate. Once approved, your account number and banking details appear in online banking. Make your first deposit and the account is live.
Before you start
- Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID — a mismatch is the single most common cause of delay.
- Have a clear photo or scan of your documents ready. All four corners must be visible and the text legible.
- Use an email address and mobile number you control; both are used for security codes.
If you started an application and did not finish it, sign in with the credentials you created and pick up where you left off. Incomplete applications are held for a limited period before they expire.
What documents do I need to open an account?
A government-issued photo ID and a proof of address dated within the last three months. Business accounts also need company registration documents.
Personal accounts
- Photo identification — a valid passport, national identity card or driving licence. It must be unexpired and show your full name, date of birth and photograph.
- Proof of address — a utility bill, bank statement, tax notice or government letter issued in the last three months, showing your name and residential address. Mobile phone bills and screenshots are not accepted.
- Tax identification — your tax identification number and country of tax residency.
Business accounts
- Certificate of incorporation or business registration.
- Memorandum and articles of association, or the equivalent constitutional document.
- Proof of registered business address.
- Identification and proof of address for every director, authorised signatory and beneficial owner holding 25% or more.
- A short description of the business activity, expected turnover and main trading countries.
How to submit them
Documents are uploaded through the secure upload screen in your application or, once you have an account, under Profile → Verification. Accepted formats are JPG, PNG and PDF up to 5 MB per file. Never email documents to anyone claiming to be from Optimal MetroHub Bank — see What we will never ask you for.
Photograph documents on a flat, dark surface in good light. Blurred edges, glare and cropped corners are rejected automatically and add days to your application.
How long does account approval take?
Most personal applications are decided within one working day. Business and treasury applications typically take two to five working days.
Timelines depend on the product and on how quickly your documents pass verification.
| Application type | Typical decision time |
|---|---|
| Personal checking or savings | Same working day to 1 working day |
| Personal card or overdraft facility | 1–2 working days |
| Business or merchant account | 2–5 working days |
| Treasury, lending or corporate facility | 5–10 working days, plus a relationship call |
What can slow it down
- Documents that are expired, unreadable, cropped or do not match the name on the application.
- A proof of address older than three months.
- Complex ownership structures on business accounts, which require additional beneficial-owner checks.
- Applications submitted outside working hours or over a public holiday.
You will receive an email whenever the status changes. If your application has been pending noticeably longer than the times above, sign in and raise a support ticket so the onboarding team can look at your specific case.

If your application is declined
Regulation limits how much detail we can share about a declined application. You are welcome to reapply if your circumstances change. If you believe a decision was made on incorrect information, contact us and we will review it.
How do I activate my new account and make a first deposit?
Sign in, confirm your contact details, set up two-factor authentication, then fund the account by incoming transfer or card.
Your approval email contains everything you need to bring the account to life.
- Sign in with the username you chose during the application.
- Confirm your contact details. We ask you to re-confirm your email and mobile number, because both are used for security codes.
- Set up two-factor authentication. This is mandatory before your first outgoing payment.
- Copy your banking details. Your account number, and where applicable your IBAN and SWIFT/BIC, are shown on the account page.
- Fund the account. Send an incoming transfer from another bank, or use a supported card top-up. Incoming domestic transfers usually land the same working day; international transfers take one to three.
Nothing has arrived yet?
Incoming funds only appear once the sending bank has released them. Check that the sender used your full account name exactly as registered, and that they included your account number or IBAN without spaces. If it has been more than three working days, raise a support ticket with the sender's confirmation reference attached.
